Today parents are very busy, and in many families both parents have to work just to make ends meet.  Even if mom or dad is a work from home parent, there isn’t a lot of extra time for fun stuff, after work, school, homework, chores, and baths are handled. 

It is a good idea to schedule a family fun night once each week, or at the very least, once each month.  It doesn’t have to be elaborate or expensive, it just needs to be one night where all other distractions are put aside. 

Rent movies, play video games or board games, share favorite snacks, draw, paint, or work on a puzzle.  Whatever your family enjoys doing, do it together. 

If time is extra short, take a family walk together.  It’s more about carving out some time, even if it’s only a short period of time, for the entire family to connect without interruption. 

Your children will begin to look forward to family fun night, and you’ll be surprised to see that even tweens and teens will respond after a while.  Plan some fun things to do, and give each member of the family turns to choose the activity. 

Family fun night will bring your family closer together.  It’s a good way to have fun and take a break from life’s demands, but it’s also a great way to share thoughts, ideas, and dreams.  Children are much more likely to communicate openly in such a relaxed setting.
